We use 9 billion gallons of water per year to water our lawns.
2 in 5 Americans; mowing the lawn was their least-liked chore!
Lawns are as useful as parking lots in nature.
Question: What is this project for, primarily?
Answer: The main focus of our projects is to reduce or remove the expense of lawn mowing and maintaining manicured lawns by replacing and managing pollinator habitat in place of it.
Question: How does replacing lawns with habitat help?
Answer: Here is a short list of some of the benefits:
-
Saves the property owner time.
-
Providing habitat that is badly needed for insects such as Monarch Butterflies, Honey Bees and Native Bees, Birds and much more.
-
Allows industry leaders to help pick native and beneficial trees, bushes and plants/flowers that best benefit your area.
-
Saves large amounts of water.
-
No more maintenance and repairs for your equipment.
-
Native plants and trees are more hardy and more drought tolerant, so they last longer and look better.
-
Reducing carbon footprint.
-
Saves property owner money by not paying a lawn service or needing to maintain a mower, weed eater, blower, edger, gas and gas cans, fertilizing, etc.
-
Allows a business to show their commitment to going green, via signage, which makes customers happy!
-
Business will become a Certified Lawns or Life Partner
Question: How can I get involved?
Answer: All you need to do is contact us and let us know your business or industrial location wants to participate, we will calculate what you will save and how we plan to change it and then show you what positive impact you will have on your local habitat.
Question: What if I don't own a business, but want to help?
Answer: This is not exclusive to Commercial or Industrial properties, even though that is our focus. If you don't want to change over your yard, you can still help buy volunteering on our committee OR you can start your own chapter of Lawns or Life in your community and help us cover even more dead zones with habitat! We are always looking for volunteers to help us with our annual banquet, distributing surveys, entering data, teaching classes, manning show booths or serving on the board. Please contact us, if you have a little or a lot of time to volunteer.
Question: What happens if my municipality doesn't allow this?
Answer: We will work closely with you to try and communicate with your municipality allowing this project to occur on your property the best way possible. In some cases, however, some municipalities are just not pro-active enough in environmental protection to budge on the subject. Honestly, very few of them are that stubborn and can usually help figure out a positive plan.
Question: What if I like to mow my lawn or I like the way lawns look?
Answer: We aren't offended when someone doesn't want to change their lawn into habitat, we know it just isn't for everyone, but there is a growing population out there that wants to quit following the status quo and wants to be more Eco friendly, save money and do their small part to help a very bad situation we will soon be in. We aren't really focused on home lawns anyway, although we do feel they are also a waste of time, money and resources. We focus more on those large commercial buildings that have lots of land to mow around. They spend thousands of dollars each year to maintain it, when they could change some or all of it over to beautiful habitat that actually benefits something and save money doing it.
Will this project cost me money?
Answer: It won't cost you more money than you already spend on maintaining your lawn. Most property owners see a 50% reduction in their lawn care expenses.
How will I maintain my lawn/new pollinator habitat?
Answer: We encourage all property owners to maintain their own new projects when possible. We will help guide and educate you on the different ways to make the most out of your new habitat. Remember, your new lawn will need far less work and effort than your old grass lawn needed. Don't worry though, in the event you just don't want to fuss with it, we can maintain it for you, for MUCH less than you would be paying a lawn service and it will be maintained by professionals who know how to make it look its best and perform at peak efficiency.
Will I be involved with the project?
Answer: You can be as involved (or not involved) as you want to be. You can help pick out the flowers, shrubs and trees or you can leave it up to the experts instead.
What if I only want to do some of my lawn, but not all of it?
Answer: We can scale a project to meet your needs, in our book, every little bit helps!
So I won't need a lawn care company anymore?
Answer: Nope, if you change your lawn over to pollinator habitat, you won't need your lawn care company anymore. This is how we save you money! Insead of paying your lawn care company, you would pay Lawns or Life around half of what you paid your lawn care company and we maintain your new habitat.
Is Lawns or Life a non-profit organization?
Answer: Not yet, our non-profit status is pending approval.
